101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think by Brianna Wiest
I think that in the event that I could've hold my attempt at a regular sleep schedule, this book would've been finished. However, as I am both an avid reader and addicted to this site as well as taking multiple classes online right now... yeah sleep schedules don't exist.
I really admired a lot of what Wiest had to say. I think that she broke the silence on a lot of things and it's definitely important to hear that. However, after purchasing some of her other books in a certified self-help CRISIS, I feel that her writing and points made are redundant. I find it rather boring and very sad to see this, because there's so much to be said in a world where mental health isn't entirely recognized, although I am aware it's better than it used to be. You know she talks about all these different ideas and things to do and I would just love for it to be unique and DIFFERENT from "When You're Ready This is How You Heal" or "The Mountain is You" - these titles are vastly different and are more focused on healing and getting through your underlying way of sabotaging good things for yourself! This book is supposed to be about changing your outlook, thinking DIFFERENTLY and for me it was just a bit of a letdown.
Given, I don't read many self-help books. But when I do, I'm in that type of mood where clinging to fantasy doesn't work. Walking into someone else's world and accepting it as mine isn't enough. I need you to guide me through my pain and shit and I don't appreciate this when authors have the pretense up that they are going to do what the title says - and it falls short.
3 stars.
