Let's Go to Gabon, Cameroon, and Namibia by Terry Lister

 4 stars

This book holds a special place in my heart. I was very ambitious when agreeing to read and review this book, determined that I was going to expand my horizons. And, I have to say, Lister did not disappoint.

Very different from my usual preferences of fiction, namely fantasy and dystopian, Lister has an uncanny ability of describing each thing and explaining it to the point where you feel that you could be comfortable enough talking about it with another person, which is honestly such a nice thing. He simplifies if in such a way that it does not appear to be a daunting read.

Let's Go to Gabon, Cameroon, and Namibia focuses on Lister's journey throughout the countries mentioned. I found it heartwarming as well as quite an easy, lighthearted read. Lister's personality really shines through as he walks you through what each day looked like, vividly describing what he was fortunate enough to see.

A particular point of perfection were the pictures included. It's one thing to tell me about a certain type of tree; it's a whole other thing to show me a picture and provide me with an example as to how it's used.

I loved the flow and easy-to-follow format that allowed the reader to feel immersed into the experience along with Lister, almost dare I say it, feeling like you are travelling with him. This is no small feat, especially in travel books. They have a tendency to feel almost clinical, describing both places and the culture within with such a ghastly sense of unattachment that it borders on uncomfortable.

I want to thank Mr. Lister for providing me with this ARC for an honest review. All of the above thoughts are my own and I was in no way pressured into making it into a positive view.
