Wow. This book. I initially got it in the October 2022 BOTM. And so it sat on my bookshelf for what... 6 months? Anyways, finally got to it.
Feelings: flabbergasted.
I'm going to be honest with y'all. I'm impressed, but somehow, also simultaneously lost AF. The book was good, the plot fast and there were so many twists. But Jesus Christ, Pey to Lily to Ruth like my head was spinning.
The basic synopsis as I have tried to explain to my friends (which has been met with concerned gaping stares) is that there are 6 levels to Hell. Downstairs, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Six is the best floor, it's about the closest you can get to Heaven... while being in Hell. My good boy Pey has made it to floor 5 and they are these people that make deals with the people on Earth. They call these people on Earth marks and they're supposed to get a certain amount of them. If you can get a Complete Set (aka 5) of these marks from your old family you get a redo (in a sense) at life. So on Floor five they go to people in dire need of help, have them sign a paper and grant them their wish in exchange for their soul. It's giving evil genie. Jafar x Genie haaha.
The two MCs partner up obviously and one mentors the other blah blah blah... but this is also being shown in the perspective of ANOTHER MC, one that just happens to be part of MC #1's lineage... part of the family that he needs to make a deal with to get his do-over. Oh, and did I mention there's an old murder brewingn...
It's a lot. It's giving Cassandra Clare's new books, moving so far into Jace and Clary, the Herondale's lineage you almost need to draw out their family tree. Soooo good but I'm still lost haha.
I doubt this helped :)
