I mean honestly, I read this book for the smut. Nobody reads this book for the plotline lmao. It was just a late night read. 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. to be exact. But I can't have 6 books on my currently reading. That's just one WAY too many.
Plotline
Cassidy (you know it's too late when you forget the MCs names) is dating Preston. Preston's a gross little horny boy that only pays any attention to her when he wants to bone her. We hate Paxton (*we are farmers tune plays*). Anyways, he's got daddy issues. Preston, that is. And you can tell that he needs some help based on how he tries to mansplain to Cassidy that they never actually broke up, they just had an argument.
Here's how the damn breakup went.
She swam at his house a lot for some reason, don't ask me, the plot wasn't very thorough or good. She wore a tiny little bikini but pled oh me my, how did I manage to pick this one? Yeah whatever. He immediately gets all hot and bothered and is like "Mmm I like that, come in the water with me." He proceeds to manhandle her, dragging her through the pool, getting her hair wet (y'all understand me when I say DON'T GET THE WOMAN'S HAIR WET) and trying to be as sexy as an underdeveloped 18-20 year old man can be while overflowing with obscene amounts of testosterone. She's like NO. He continues, because men, and she finally loses it and says some very cliche, cringey line, like "We aren't the same as we used to be." Mind you, they'd be dating for three years. He left her alone when her grandma died. He's a piece of work. We. Hate. Him. Then he gets a call from work and somehow he forgot it was a Wednesday because, as we can see, Cassidy really knows how to pick 'em. Fast forward and all of his friends think that she asked to come over to fuck and all make innuendos and dirty looks. Then Preston, of course, thinks that he's about to get off on her and starts touching her which pisses me the fuck off. He yells at her when she tells him no, they broke up, yada yada whatever. He's just dense. Like as dense as Plankton. Don't ask me why I picked that reference. I. Don't. Know.
So, right after Preston and Cassidy break up, she immediately goes for his dad, who apparently wants her just as badly. So insta-lust frfr. They fuck a few days later.
-Lots of smut-
Finally Preston finds them and there's a whole "Oh no you didn't" "Oh yes she did." Overdramatic shit lol, but for a smutty read, it was manageable.
Cassidy
While I thought she was decent, I also thought that she played a little too much on the "OMG look at me, I'm 19... OMG they didn't card me, OMG I'm such a child. He's so old. He'll never want me. He has a girlfriend? As if she wasn't his girlfriend. Dense. College. Girls.
Preston
While I feel for the whole daddy issues thing he's got going on here because supposedly his dad left him and his mom for med school and a job, I also think that he also relied on it SO much. It's like these characters picked their bitchiness and held onto it for dear life. He cheated on her. It pissed me off that happened. He's just a bad dude.
Greg
I guess she was legal. Barely. He was walking a very fine line. She was like 19 1/2 when the first "documented" account of her WATCHING HIS SON FUCK HER IN THE BACKYARD THINKING ABOUT HOW HE COULD DO IT BETTER? Sorry. I just- AND THEN FUCKING HER IN THAT SAME PLACE SAYING THAT HE WAS GOING TO DO IT UNTIL ALL SHE COULD THINK ABOUT WAS HIM? Hmm. Well Greg seemed sweet. I think it would've done everyone a little favor if she just happened to be a teensy bit older. It's bordering on ya know. Ya know. Just make her 20 from the get? It just seemed like she was a little too close to 18 but maybe that was just me. He's a steamy sex god. (I still think Neon Gods was better). He played his part well. His emotions weren't it for me tho.
Overall, the characters all fell flat for me. It was a sexy read. It was SPICY. But that's all it was. Neon Gods proved to me that you could have a great plotline and still the whole sexy, erotic thing going on. Someone page Sloane and tell her.
